I find it difficult to convey the beauty and majesty of Kings Canyon, so am going to let Ray's photos speak for themselves. We thought the Rock and the Olgas were pretty special but Kings Canyon outdid them all. We walked both days - the first around the rim of the Canyon and the second along the canyon floor to a viewing platform which is as far as it is possible to go - any further is "secret mens' business".

Sturts Desert Pea, such a vibrant flower, growing in the garden at the Resort. |

And just to show that all is not hard work, this is the lovely pool at Kings Canyon Resort. |

Kings Canyon from the sunset viewing area near the Resort. All very civilised with drinks and nibbles from 5.30 till after sunset! |

I was sitting on top of one of the beehive formations. It's easy to climb but scary to get back down again! The drop over the edge is hundreds of feet, straight down if you miss the narrow path to get back onto the bridge. |

Eroded "beehive" rock formations along the top of the canyon wall. |
|
This is how most people climbed - it's scary stuff, with no safety rails, or warnings! |

Second day's walk along the bottom of the canyon, looking up |

Magnificent waterhole, second day's walk |

Ray risking his life for "just one more photo" - no safety barriers here! |

Lovely reflections at the Garden of Eden, hidden deep within the canyon |

Garden of Eden, again "secret mens' business" |

Our first sight of a dingo, as we were driving out of the Canyon on the second day. Lots of dingoes around the camp though - didn't see them but we did hear their howls! |
It was difficult choosing the photos for this blog - we have at least another 200! For those of you who haven't already visited the Canyon, I hope these give you an idea of its beauty.
We are currently at Alice Springs on a week's "holiday". Will report next week on a surprisingly cosmopolitan town!
